As a Savannah photographer, I’m so lucky to call this beautiful city my home. I’ll never get tired of the stunning backdrops I get to adventure to for all of my couples who are looking for a Savannah engagement session. How can you not want to spend a day with your fiancé here?! If you’re looking to bring some personality to your engagement session, you’ve come to the right place. I’m all about making each engagement session unique and personal, adding as much of who you are as a couple into your time with me. Below are just a handful of fun ideas to incorporate into your Savannah engagement session from a local’s perspective.
Find an epic backdrop
Take it from a Savannah engagement photographer – there is no shortage of beautiful spots for your engagement session to take place. We’ve got so many diverse places all around us: we can hop around the River Street area, Forsyth Park, historic downtown city streets, or the quirky Starland District – and that’s just one small portion of the Savannah area! We can of course choose to plan a session at Wormsloe (featured in this engagement session), or take things a bit further and head to Jekyll Island’s Driftwood Beach. Basically, all you have to do is turn around, and you’ll find yourself an incredible location for your Savannah engagement session. And this is just the tip of the iceberg!
Include your pet
I’m a HUGE animal lover, and think it’s so special when couples want their pets to be included in their engagement session photos. You will never hear me say no to furry friends! If you decide you do want to bring Fido along (or any other pet for that matter), there’s a few things you’ll want to consider. First, make sure your engagement session location allows pets before bringing them along. Fortunately, Savannah is super pet-friendly and is so welcoming to animals in general, so if you’re dreaming of a shoot in downtown Savannah, you’ll likely see water bowls along the streets in restaurants and boutiques, meaning your pup will be hydrated and happy. There are even some spots where there are water fountains for dogs, like at the beautiful Wormsloe Historic Site, so you truly won’t have to worry about any restrictions in this city. (One of the many reasons I love it here!)
Plan an outfit change
While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with sticking to one outfit for your Savannah engagement session, you may also want to consider an outfit change if you’re hoping for a little more variety with your photos. Whether you want to stick to similar styles for each (like this couple did!), or you’d rather go for two drastically different looks – for example, one outfit dressed up and fancy, the other dressed down and casual – adding another outfit allows for more selection when it comes to displaying photos in your home, at your wedding venue, or for your Save the Dates. I always send my couples a Wardrobe Guide and share my Pinterest boards with examples of outfit ideas, depending on your style. Whatever you plan to wear, make sure your outfits reflect who you are – or just makes you feel like a million bucks when you’re wearing it.
Embrace Savannah’s charm
Make Savannah’s stunning scenery a focal point for your engagement session, and I promise you won’t regret it. You’ll have so many beautiful photos to choose from: not just close-ups of you and your partner, but of you and your partner experiencing all that Savannah’s scenery has to offer. There’s nothing more beautiful than our live Oak trees, our Spanish moss, and our Palmetto trees as far as the eye can see – except maybe the quaint cobblestone streets and marvelous Victorian homes that line Savannah’s streets. Savannah truly has it all, and if you want to hear it straight from a Savannah engagement photographer yourself… here it is! This is your sign to plan your engagement session – and maybe even (gasp!) your wedding – in Savannah.
